# How to book your walk

![Walkers heading out on a New Forest path](https://new-forest.ngx-ramblers.org.uk/api/aws/s3/site-content/cb04cb5c-4e80-4c36-8821-c5f6540feb6e.jpg)

Book your date with the [walks coordinator](https://new-forest.ngx-ramblers.org.uk/contact-us?contact-us&role=walks&redirect=walk-leaders/how-to-book-you-walk-and-add-it-to-the-published-programme). Tuesday gentle pace walks should be booked with Mary first. You can see which dates are already taken on our [walks calendar](https://new-forest.ngx-ramblers.org.uk/walks/walks-calendar).

## What we need

#### When and where

- **Start time** — usually 10:00, though you can choose another time
- **Start point** — the car park name is usually enough; an OS grid reference helps. If parking on private land, you must have the landowner's permission
- **Parking charges** — we try to say where charges apply (all Forestry England car parks, some local authority and National Trust ones). Updates are useful
- **Finish time** — the systems we use need one. Unless you tell us otherwise we assume 5-mile walks take 2½ hours and 10–12-mile walks take 5½ hours

#### The walk itself

- **Length** — miles or km
- **Route notes** — as much or as little as you like. A forest circular walk is fine. Include anything walkers need, such as boots, wellies or hills
- **Contact** — usually a mobile number, which helps people who get lost on the way. A landline or email is fine. What we publish is your choice; talk to the walks coordinator if you have concerns

Leaders can book a date in advance and send the details nearer the time.
