The leader's short brief before you set off is the start of a successful walk. Ramblers online training is the main place to see what should be included. The notes below are a useful prompt.

## Before you set off

#### Welcome and people

- Welcome everyone to Ramblers New Forest Group
- Give your name as today's leader, count the group, and appoint a back marker
- Ask if there are new or prospective members
- Invite anyone with allergies or other health issues to tell you, and fellow walkers if needed

#### Route and safety

- Miles, hours, a short route description, the mid-route break, and an approximate return time
- The group stays together, at a comfortable pace for everyone
- Weather precautions and the main hazards of the route and forest
- Ramblers recommend using the emergency contact on your phone, and offer Ramblers cards
